50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

The 50th wedding anniversary of George and Virginia Jarvis was a gala occasion in the local Legionnaires’ Hall, with many old friends and family attending. The following song was sung in their honor by the three children—Georgia, William, and Phyllis—using a well-known tune and adding appropriate words for the occasion.

Dearie, do you remember?
Dearie, do you remember when we stayed up all night to get
Pittsburgh on a crystal set?
Keystone movies, Coogan and Chaplin
Made you laugh and then cry.
Test your memory, my

Dearie, do you recall when Babe Ruth played for the Boston team?
His home-run hits surely did have the steam.

Dearie, life was cheery in the good old days gone by.
Do you remember?
If you remember,
Then Dearie, you’re much older than I.

Dearie, do you remember when George Jarvis sold Maxwell cars?
A nickel bought five candy bars.
Sayre was just a bustling village
Waiting for all the oil.
Test your memory, my

Dearie, do you recall when Henry Ford couldn’t even fix a
running board under a Chandler six.

Dearie, life was cheery in the good old days gone by.
Do you remember?
If you remember,
Then Dearie, you’re much older than I.

Dearie, do you remember when there was a good rain in Sayre?
A really good rain in Sayre
With water running over the river bridge
I mean the original bridge.
Test your memory, my

Dearie, do you remember when Joe Louis won every fight
‘Cause nobody ducked from the “Bomber’s” right.

Dearie, life was cheery in the good old days gone by.
Do you remember?
If you remember,
Well Dearie, you’re much older than, you’re much older than,
You’re much older than I!
