One day I was walking
to high school and saw J.D. Lewis, someone I had always looked up to.
He was home on vacation from the University of Oklahoma and we had an
ever so brief conversation. He told me he was studying Petroleum Engineering
which was a combination of geology and engineering. What a natural,
I thought. Being in the oil business, my father had always been interested
in geology. So when I went to the university the next year, I enrolled
in petroleum engineering. I had never heard of this course, nor did
I know much about any other courses for that matter until I talked for
that brief moment with J.D. Lewis.
My course in geology turned out to be fascinating and, later in life,
it led to my decision to built a state-of-the-art cave to house our
winery.
